Tutor agreement
Last updated: 21 August 2026
This agreement is between H&N&M Investment LLC (“LingoHarbor”, “we”) and you, the tutor. By teaching a lesson on LingoHarbor you accept it. Read it together with the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy.
1. Your status
You are an independent contractor, not an employee. You decide when you are available and you are free to teach elsewhere. You are responsible for your own taxes, insurance and any licence your country requires. Nothing here creates a partnership or an employment relationship.
2. What you undertake to do
- Be present, on time and ready when a lesson starts, with a working camera, microphone and a stable connection.
- Teach in English, appropriately for the learner’s level, using our material or your own approved material.
- Correct the learner’s sentences clearly, so the correction can be saved to their Lesson Book.
- Treat every learner with respect. No harassment, discrimination, sexual conduct or political or religious pressure.
- Keep what a learner tells you confidential, and never record a lesson without telling the learner and obtaining consent.
- Never take payment from a learner outside LingoHarbor, and never move a learner to another platform.
- Keep your profile honest: your own name, your own photo, your real country and your real experience.
3. What we undertake to do
- Provide the classroom, the material, the scheduling and the payment collection.
- Show your profile to learners and pass on their bookings.
- Record every completed lesson and its length, and pay you for it as set out below.
- Deal with abusive learners, and remove a learner who mistreats you.
4. Pay
| Rate | US$0.05 per taught minute, unless we agree a different rate with you in writing. |
|---|---|
| What counts | Actual lesson time recorded by the classroom, rounded up to the next whole minute. A lesson shorter than 1 minute is not paid. |
| Period | Calendar month, from the 1st to the last day. |
| Payment date | Within 10 business days after the end of the month. |
| Minimum payout | US$20.00. Below that, the balance carries over to the next month. |
| Method | Bank transfer or another method we agree. Transfer fees charged by your own bank are yours. |
| Statement | Your tutor dashboard shows every lesson, the minutes taught and the amount, so you can check it yourself at any time. |
When a lesson is not paid
- You did not appear, or you appeared more than 5 minutes late and the learner left.
- The lesson was cancelled before it started.
- We refunded the learner because of your conduct, or because the lesson was not delivered.
- The record was created fraudulently — for example a lesson that did not happen.
Where a learner is refunded through no fault of yours (for example a fault in our platform), you are still paid for the time you taught.
5. Cancellations by you
Cancel as early as you can. Repeated cancellations at short notice, or not appearing, may lead to your profile being hidden or your account being closed. If you cannot teach for a while, set yourself offline instead of leaving bookings open.
6. Material and recordings
Our course, audio and illustrations remain ours; you may use them to teach on LingoHarbor and nowhere else. Material you create yourself remains yours, and you give us permission to show it to your learners inside the classroom.
7. Ending the agreement
Either side may end this agreement at any time, with 14 days’ notice where practical. We may suspend you immediately for a serious breach — in particular for conduct that puts a learner at risk. Pay you have already earned is still paid.

This is a plain-language template prepared for H&N&M Investment LLC, not legal advice. Before you sign tutors up, have an employment lawyer check it: the line between contractor and employee differs by country, and the wrong wording can create employer obligations you did not intend. The rate and the minimum payout above are the values currently configured in the system — change them here and in the settings together.
